Here’s a few tips…I’m not sure if I have the authority but I’ll try.
1. Know your character. Embody some of the qualities of the house they were sorted into but be open that everyone possesses some qualities from other houses. Know your character’s quirks, don’t “talk” about your talents (if the character has any) and simply show it. (I assumed everyone has read the books backwards and forwards)
Ex: If character is a skilled potioneer, show it.
Para sample: Snape opened his ubiquitous book of potions and skimmed through the pages. His lips frowned as he realized the errors of some instructions. He pulled out his quill and scratched out the unnecessary instructions and scribbled the new set of instructions instead.
*Note: It seems to simple but it’s a gateway to proving that he’s more than the average studious student.
2. Actions speak louder than words. Sometimes a character doesn’t have to say anything. A few gestures can show what kind of person he is…
ex: As soon as Mary stopped yelling at Sirius. He raised an eyebrow and walked away from her coldly. (Shows that Sirius isn’t one to take shit)
As soon as the Slytherin left, Fabian couldn’t help but suppress the grin on his face and walked back to his dormitory. (Fabian is an easy going character who doesn’t take things too seriously.)
If your character is smart…show it.
If your character is a nerd…show it.
Don’t be afraid to make your characters feel pain, anguish, remorse, or awkward. Make them come alive without even saying anything.
3. Guide your RP partner. If your character is a sarcastic fucker, then let it flow naturally. Don’t shift from happy-go-lucky joking time to “I’m so badass it hurts”. It doesn’t work that way and your partner may take offense to it OOC.
4. Always be aware that no one will attack you OOC. NOT EVEN SLYTHERINS. Don’t insult another’s person’s character OOC if you do not know their story. IC insults are FINE. OOC insults are not.
5. Don’t be so defensive. Move on and if you don’t like to RP with that person anymore then stop. You can message them ooc and tell them that you didn’t like how the story goes and just drop it. No one is forcing you to RP with that person anyway…
No ONE is bullying anyone. Stop taking everything too personally and just move freely.
